Lightning strikes as A.D. Calvo lands distribution deal out of AFM


Suffering from her mother's recent suicide, a delusional young girl falls for an alluring Goth, against the objections of a life-size talking muslin doll.

At this week’s American Film Market, Lightning Media, the domestic distribution label of Lightning Entertainment, announced it has picked up the domestic home entertainment rights to writer/director A.D. Calvo’s psycho-doll horror/thriller, THE MELANCHOLY FANTASTIC. Artist View Entertainment will take on international sales.

THE MELANCHOLY FANTASTIC is a creepy and surreal horror/thriller about a delusional young girl who speaks with her deceased mother through a life-size doll. The film made its world premiere in August during the New York International Latino Film Festival. Calvo also participated in LATIN HORROR's "The World of MIEDO - The Business of Horror" panel that took place at the 2011 East Harlem International Film Festival.

Todd Slater represented the filmmakers in the negotiations with Scott Jones, President of Artist View Entertainment, and Audrey Delaney, VP of Acquisitions and Marketing for Lightning Entertainment. Slater is the former Executive Vice President at Philip Anschutz’s film company (Anschutz Film Group) and has worked at Paramount Pictures and Huntsman Entertainment.

Calvo expressed gratitude regarding the deal, “In today’s film climate, long term relationships are everything. I’m proud that THE MELANCHOLY FANTASTIC landed a home with two great companies that can execute. Both domestically and internationally we now know our film will get out there and be seen across the globe.” Slater echoed Calvo’s sentiments by stating, “Lightning and Artist View are two top sales and distribution companies in Hollywood. Alex and I are thrilled to be in business with them both.”
 
Calvo’s first feature, THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS, was picked up by Artist View in 2008 and released domestically on Showtime and internationally via Fox Studios. All the films have been produced in partnership with the Connecticut-based production shingle Budderfly Entertainment.

A.D. Calvo recently wrapped principal photography on his latest project, HOUSE OF DUST, a psycho-thriller starring Inbar Lavi (Underemployed) and Holland Roden (Teen Wolf).
