Some wonderfully
horrific news has broken over the
horrizon that George
A. Romero is set to direct Steven
C. Schlozman's
fantastic book THE
ZOMBIE AUTOPSIES: SECRET NOTEBOOKS
FROM THE APOCALYPSE. Straying
off the "[Blank] Of The Dead" beaten
path, Romero is set to adapt the
novel into a feature film as his
next project.
As we reported this past
March, Schlozman is an
assistant professor of psychiatry at
Boston's Harvard Medical School and
an all-around Zombie enthusiast. He has
taken a
unique perspective at the
zombie genre by
looking at the cult-like walking
dead phenomenon through the lens of
"what if" and grounded that in
reality and actual medical science.
When Schlozman's book
came across our radar earlier this
year thanks to filmmaker, friend,
and LATIN HORROR supporter Hugo
Pérez,
we immediately saw it as a fresh
breath of fowl air in the "animated
dead" space. So the news that the
Godfather and creator of the genre
would be bringing the book to the
big screen is definitely welcome
news. And we
couldn't be more excited (and have
our fingers crossed it doesn't fall
apart).
Romero, who is Cuban American,
recently bypassed helming episodes
of AMC's
popular cable TV zombie vehicle The Walking Dead
due to his travels and in lieu of
taking a stab at adapting
Schlozman's novel,
which hit book shelves just this
past March 25th.
A
date is yet to be announced as to
when Romero will take his scalpel to
the material but we'll keep you
posted as details emerge. In the
interim, take a moment to view the
original book teaser for The Zombie
Autopsies [after the jump], directed
by Hugo Pérez.
